Beginning ESL Reading
All of our beginning ESL students, regardless of grade level, are required to enroll in our Beginning ESL Reading class. Students spend their time reading fiction and nonfiction texts, writing and participating in guided reading, read-aloud and oral discussion activities. Teachers emphasize the importance of acquiring proficiency in academic English and concentrate on empowering students for future success in other English-language coursework.

Literacy Lab
Our Literacy Lab is designed to address the needs of students in all grade levels who score at an Unsatisfactory or lower Partially Proficient level on the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) test. To improve student scores on the CSAP exam, we provide three teachers during each school period who determine the specific needs of each Literacy Lab student and tailor lessons to meet those needs, as well as provide students with the opportunity to practice silent reading. Most students are organized in different stations according to instruction requirements for reading comprehension and decoding.

Literature
Specially designed for students who score at the upper Partially Proficient and Proficient level on the CSAP test, our Literature course helps students improve their reading abilities and CSAP scores. Using read-aloud, small group reading, guided reading and independent reading sessions and literature circles, the Literature course is focused on developing students' metacognitive reading strategies.

Advanced Literature
Providing middle school students the opportunity to tackle more sophisticated reading materials, the Advanced Literature class is tailored to challenge students who are already highly competent readers. The students read more advanced texts and learn to recognize literary themes, discuss plot and character development at a deep level and even link literature to their other studies to increase their academic competence across multiple disciplines.
