Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced ESL
As a learning institution that celebrates diversity, Angevine provides students whose native language isn't English with the learning opportunities that they need to write competently in English. Our beginning, intermediate and advanced ESL language arts classes help ESL students build their English vocabulary and improve their skills, not only in writing but also in reading, grammar and spelling.
Writer's Workshop
One of the best ways to improve students' writing is to provide them with an opportunity to write each and every school day. Participants in our Writer's Workshop, who come from varied backgrounds and ability levels, put pencil to paper daily to increase their writing fluency and develop their academic writing skills, as well as their spelling and grammar skills. Teachers provide instruction and writing feedback in accordance with state testing rubrics. In addition to persuasive essays and multiple forms of expository writing, the Writer's Workshop teaches students how to write letters and generate journalistic reportage.
Literary Magazine
As part of our Talented and Gifted (TAG) program, students have the opportunity to work on the Angevine literary magazine, Our Voices: A Collection of Prose and Poetry, through an after-school program that is supported by a number of teachers. To participate in the Literary Magazine project, students are not required to be designated TAG students. The only requirement for participation is a desire to contribute to the magazine.
