Homework
Homework is an excellent way for students to improve the skills and knowledge that they are taught in the classroom. At Angevine, our teachers assign homework with the intention to address the goals of the curriculum and increase students' learning abilities.
Prior to assigning homework, our teachers provide students with the guided practice that they need to complete the assignment. Traditionally, homework is assigned for the following purposes:
- Practice and review
- Preparation for future lessons
- Extension of previously learned material for new material
- Integration of independently learned skills into a single product.
The following indicates average daily homework expectations (work designated as homework by the teacher) by grade level:
- 6th grade—60 minutes
- 7th grade—75 minutes
- 8th grade—90 minutes.
These time commitments apply to most of our traditional classes, but do not apply to time requirements for band, choir and foreign languages. Accordingly, if your student is taking one or more of our band, choir or foreign language classes, he or she may have more homework.
While it is an important part of our students' learning experiences, homework does not account for more than 30 percent of a student's overall grade for a class.
At Angevine, teachers only assign homework from Monday through Friday during the school week. Because we do not expect students to do homework during the weekend, students have more time to plan personal and educational schedules for the weekend.
Please refer to your student registration packet for more information on homework and homework expectations at Angevine.
